Royal LIFEGUARDS
Club
Royal Pool employs 5 professional lifeguards during the
summer months.
Club Royal Lifeguards maintain a safe
recreational swimming facility by preventing drowning and
other injuries to members and guests. Each lifeguards wears
the traditional red lifeguard swimsuits and observes
swimmers from guard stand or pool side and cautions swimmers
of rule violations to enforce pool safety rules. They assist
with special events, swim meets, and other events including
supervising special events to ensure such activities proceed
in a safe manner.
They may provide swimming lessons and
teach basic water safety.
What Qualifications do Lifeguards have?
Our lifeguards must possess one of the following current lifeguard
certifications; American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification,
Y.M.C.A.'s Lifeguard or equivalent certification; may require
American Red Cross or YMCA or equivalent water safety instructor
certification.
Lifeguards must be able to respond to
emergency situations to ensure the safety of pool patrons and
performs appropriate emergency and rescue techniques when necessary
including cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid in an
effective manner to ensure proper crisis management.
LIFEGUARD DUTIES:
The lifeguard maintains a safe environment for all guests of
Metro Parks swimming pools. Under management’s instruction, the
lifeguard is responsible for all of the following duties on a daily
basis:
- Maintains order both in the water and on
the pool deck, and enforces pool rules.
- Attentively observes activity in the water
and insures safe swimming conditions at all times.
- Treats the public with courtesy and respect
at all times.
- Provides first aid treatment and artificial
respiration when necessary.
- Maintains proper certification and
maintains water rescue skills.
- Attends all in-services and conditioning
sessions as scheduled.
- Performs daily clean-up or other necessary
tasks as instructed.
- Takes water test and accurately records
results on pool log sheet.
- Sits in lifeguard chairs, with the rescue
tube in their lap, with whistle in their hand or around their neck
at all times when they are responsible for the pool.
- Reports to work 15 minutes prior to
scheduled time in required uniform.
